Plums

Sweet and juicy health benefits
Among summer fruits, the plum is one of the timeless classics of Italian cuisine: fresh it is crunchy and perfect for a snack, cooked it is the basis for splendid tarts or sweet jams that already smell of summer memories. They are fruits that lend themselves well both for fresh consumption and for cooking, also considering that these plants are often very generous in fruiting.

Harvesting

Plum and blackthorn fruits are drupes with an internal stone. They are harvested when they have reached the right size, colour and texture to the touch. There are many different types with delayed ripening, so it is possible to have harvests in August and September.

Curiosities

There are more than 2000 varieties of plum that can be found today in commerce, among them it is curious the origin of the variety Monsieur, which owes its name to the brother of the Sun King who was particularly fond of it.

Plum, because of its high content of sugar, is particularly suited to be used for distillates: from the Venetian Plum to the Hungarian Palinka, this small fruit has an unmistakable aroma.
