Apples

An apple a day keeps the doctor away
Apple tree is a plant spread and cultivated all over the world and there are many varieties coming from intervarietal and interspecific crossings. Nowadays there are more than 7500 different cultivars of apple, each one with well-defined organoleptic and chemical characteristics different from the others, but most of them are crisp and coloured. Each cultivar has its own ripening and harvesting times, for this reason it is the fruit always present on our tables, although dressed with different clothes. Eaten raw or used in preparations, the apple is, to all intents and purposes, the fruit par excellence, present in human culture since the dawn of time.

Harvest

There are varieties of apples harvested in summer, whose fruits have a limited shelf life, whereas those harvested in autumn and those harvested later (also called winter apples) can be stored for many months in a controlled atmosphere.

Harvesting can be done from the ground if the plants are not too vigorous, reaching even 25 kg of fruit per plant. The varieties marketed by Ribotta Group ripen mainly between August and October.

Curiosities

From Eve to Paris and Helen, in literature the apple is often a symbol of seduction and perdition.

The apple is, in the human imagination, present as the prototypical fruit: anyone who is asked to think of a fruit, point blank, will think of a (red) apple.
